BLOG TRIKIPEDIA.NL – OUR ADVENTURE IN DUTCH
We were honoured when Ruud from www.trikipedia.nl approached us and asked if he could publish a blog about our travel adventure. Triathletes who take a year off and decide to cycle in many different countries around the world - how did we come up with this idea?
Ruud sent us a couple of questions which took us through memory lane.
GRAVEL THE WORLD – SKINFIT BLOG
It took Josien three years to find the perfect triathlon shorts, and since then she is in love with the Skinfit brand. We were super happy when Skinfit liked the idea of our travel & decided to support us with their lightweight clothing. Skinfit wrote a blog about our trip with the focus on our preparation, route planning, packlist and nutrition while being on the road.
CYCLING ARMENIA – DISCOVERING ARMENIA BY BIKE
Very last minute we decided to fly to Armenia, a country that has been on top of Franklin's list for a long time already. When we abruptly had to leave Nepal due to the lockdown we spent a few days in Dubai deciding on our next destination. And what an incredible luck that Armenia was open without restrictions, so we could enjoy all the beauty this amazing country has to offer.
OLINDA TO FORTALEZA – BIKEPACKING BRAZIL
Read about our experience, cycling from Olinda to Fortaleza by gravel bike. Our tips on the nicest hotels, the best routes, challenges with low and high tide & the best beaches!
We did a 2.5 week bike packing trip, with 10 longer days (60‑185km) of cycling. We wanted to relax on the beach and explore the little towns so we took quite some days off. There is so much beauty on this route, so no need to rush! But if you want to do it faster, it’s for sure possible!
BRING YOUR BIKE ON A PLANE – DIFFERENT AIRLINE REGULATIONS
Bringing your bike on a flight can be stressful. To help others picking the best airline and to reduce stress at check-in, we wrote down our experience with the different airlines. Additional charges, size and weigh limits & a link to the airline website with the latest information. We hope its helpful!
NEPAL ANNAPURNA CIRCUIT – BY GRAVEL BIKE
We cycled one of the most famous hiking tracks in Nepal - The Annapurna Circuit. The circuit leads over the 5416m Thorong La pass, which makes it a very nice challenge! This was the most scenic and exciting route we have cycled so far, it was hard and truly incredible!
BRAZIL BIKEPACKING – TREZE TILIAS TO CHAPADA DOS GUIMARÃES
In Brazil we started our cycling adventure in Treze Tilias, the town where Franklin grew up. From there we made our way to Chapada dos Guimarães, passing Foz do Iguacu, Bonito and other wonderful highlights on the way. We made a short video of every day!
VISITING THE MAASAI BOMA
How did the people live many many years ago? We believe that when you visit the Maasai or other tribes in Africa, you will still come close to experiencing this.
When we were in Mto wa Mbu, we started talking to one of the other customers, who turned out to be a local guide for cyling tours. He mentioned that he could actually take us to one of the Maasai Boma a bit further from the main road. As these families are not often visited by tourists and you will get a more traditional experience.
CLIMBING OL DOINYO LENGAI
While walking around he talked about climbing Ol Doinyo Lengai. Our guide metioned that it is fairly easy and the view from up there is beautiful. During dinner the night before at the Maasai Giraffe campsite, we talked to a group of mountaineers from Austria who would go up the mountain that night.
Of course the idea of climbing Ol Doinyo Lengai started to play in my head immediately. We had so much fun on the Kili and it was so easy. Why not go for another summit.
